Business executive and philanthropist Sharen Jester Turney of New York City and retired corporate attorney Annabel Jones of Tulsa were welcomed as new members of the University of Oklahoma Foundation Board of Trustees during its quarterly meeting in February.

The OU Foundation Board of Trustees is composed of professionals from such fields as finance, law, business, philanthropy and medicine. Members are not compensated and oversee total Foundation assets of $2 billion for the benefit of the University of Oklahoma.

“Governance determines the quality of an institution,” said Guy L. Patton, CEO and president of the OU Foundation. “The foundation has been blessed with trustees who are outstanding humans with amazing skills and qualifications, but all have one qualification that matters the most, which is a love for the university and a desire to help it be better.”

Turney, a 1986 OU business education alumna, has more than 30 years of experience growing world-class brands and launching e-commerce businesses across department, luxury and specialty concepts for Fortune 500 companies. She spent 16 years as president and CEO of Victoria’s Secret and was credited with doubling the $8 billion company’s business and profits.

Turney previously spent 10 years with luxury brand Neiman Marcus, serving as executive vice president before starting their e-commerce business and managing the famed Neiman Marcus Christmas Book as president and CEO of Neiman Marcus Direct.

She has been inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and OU’s Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education Wall of Fame, as well as receiving the college’s Award of Distinction.
Turney’s advisory roles in retail, technology and philanthropy include serving as chair of the board of directors for the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and on the Jay H. Baker Retailing Initiative advisory board at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Her work in both industry and philanthropy has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Fashion Medal of Honor for Fashion Retailing and special honors from the Children’s Hunger Alliance of Columbus, Ohio, and Way to WIN for her support of homeless women and children in New York City.

Annabel Jones, who earned a 1976 bachelor’s in political science and a 1979 law degree from OU, served as a corporate attorney with oil and gas exploration company Samson Resources of Tulsa for more than 33 years. Her work focused on corporate governance, transactions, finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities, risk management and human resources. She is a fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors and a member of the Corporate Governance Professionals.

Jones is serving her second two-year term as international president of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. A member of the sorority’s Psi Chapter, she also is a Gamma Phi Beta Foundation trustee and serves on Gamma Phi Beta’s bylaws, extension, audit and governance committees.

Her 30 years of service to the sorority have included such roles as chapter adviser, alumnae chapter officer, regional team leader, and collegiate vice president and financial vice president of the Gamma Phi Beta International Council. She also was the first chairwoman of the Gamma Phi Beta Facilities Management Company Board of Directors.

She is a member of Leadership Tulsa and currently serves as chair of the Junior League of Tulsa Facilities Corporation Board and vice chair of the board for Collegiate Hall, a Tulsa STEM-focused charter school.
