L
long known for his iconic Seed Sewer sculpture that welcomes visitors to each of the University of Oklahoma’s three campuses, artist-in-residence Paul Moore recently turned his considerable skill to OU mascots Boomer and Sooner—this time to raise money for scholarships.
A limited edition of 190 bronze castings of the ponies pulling “The Sooner Schooner” in a victory lap—each measuring 24 inches in length and 10½ inches in height—are available to Sooner fans for their homes or offices. Cost is $7,500. Additionally, larger castings of the sculpture measuring 48 inches in length—suitable for corporate offices, gardens or other spacious areas—are available for $20,000.
Moore donated his time and talent to the project, with proceeds designated for academic and athletic scholarships. Among the University’s top priorities is raising more private funds for scholarships to help ensure that all qualified students receive the support they need to attend OU. Each sculpture is numbered and signed by Moore. The base of the sculpture includes a plate reading, “The University of Oklahoma Sooner Schooner, A Tradition of Champions.” Shipping and handling is included in the purchase price. Delivery from the foundry takes up to 12 weeks.
A world-renowned sculptor, Paul Moore joined OU in June 1997 to reinvigorate the figurative sculpture program. Moore’s work is in the collections of numerous municipal, corporate, private and international institutions, including the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and the U.S. Capitol Collection in Washington, D.C.
He currently is working on a 365-foot-long bronze representation of the Oklahoma Land Run, “Oklahoma Centennial Land Run Monument,” along the Bricktown Canal in downtown Oklahoma City. Upon completion in 2014, it will be the largest free-standing bronze sculpture in the world.
